A Few Tips to Stand Out at Talent Showcases

Every four to six weeks, ScoutServe provides an opportunity for our child actors to audition for top agents in the business. To ensure these professionals keep returning to our showcases, it is important that they see kids who are properly prepared.

Here are a few tips that would help you increase the chances of landing representation:

* Don't be afraid, be prepared! - I know, you're probably thinking "that's easy to say." Yes, that's true, but the more prepared you are, the less afraid you would be. Remember, agents are people too. They're actually happy to see you. They want you to do well. Keep in mind they wouldn't be at the showcase if they didn't need kids like you. They're laid back and relaxed (especially if they've been eating!). It's a good time to be relaxed too.

* Speak loudly and clearly - It doesn't matter how well you perform your commercial if the agents can't hear you or can't understand what you're saying. We know there are plenty of times you're told at home to be quiet...well, it's different here. This is your time to show off that voice in public!

* Clothing choices are important - First, remember to wear bright solid colors because those colors will help you stand out in the camera. Avoid wearing any logos or patters, they're distracting. Also, make sure that your hair is not covering your face. Most importantly, be yourself. Dress like you usually dress. You want the agents to see your personality through your clothing choices. The person standing in front of the agents should be the person you are on a daily basis.

* Don't read the script, be prepared! - The agents know you can read. What they really want to see is your personality. This is much more important than getting the words exactly right. Make the script your own, it's not about just saying the words but about living the moment. If you're trying to sell a hamburguer, you got to make me crave it! Look at the lines and imagine how you would convince your friend or family member that they need the product, whichever it is. Then say the lines that way.

Remember these tips and you would have a great chance of standing out. Remember, you only have about a minute to impress the agents so prepare to be the best they see. Have fun with the process and always be yourself!
